One-Line Bio

I'm a fruit with gossipy ambitions.

Biography

Thanks for reading my blog. I created this site for two purposes: one - so that I can express all my random thoughts without boring you all individually and two - to keep in touch with those of you close to my heart and far away from New York.

Please check back periodically to see what trouble I've been up to.

For those of you tuning in without having met me, a brief intro:

I value versatility, open-mindedness and kindness above all things.

I have many names - Liz, e, Aliza, echo, Coco, Young Soo, Lupa, Ju Yun, Erzsébet, Zhao Xiaoling, Betty, Lizzie - that I've picked up through my life and travels. I respond to all of these names, which means I'm constantly looking around, looking confused...

I was born and raised in Seoul, Korea - and went through the international school circuit. In 1994, I relocated to Pasadena, CA where I finished up at Westridge, an all girls school. There I dabbled in things like pottery making, platform diving, existentialism and developed a lifelong dedication to jamba juice. (L.A. is contagious!)

I got my BA in Organizational Behaviour and Management at Brown, where I mostly partied, wrote and edited the Brown Daily Herald, and learned how to get along with people who are extremely different from me. Shortly after graduation, I came to New York, where I worked in the glamour industries. Low pay + despiriting work environment = high prestige - never figured out how that equilibrium stays constant. I've switched jobs constantly - art auction houses, advertising, fashion and PR. I've decided on advertising and am with Saatchi & Saatchi currently. I am enjoying the company and the people immensely.

The Arts is very important for me. My mother, an erstwhile art historian, kept an impressive library of art history books, which as a child, I used to smuggle into the closet to read. My first love was Egyptology, which led me to receiving my masters degree in Art history and Archaeology. My first job out of college was at Sotheby's, in the Impressionist and Modern Art department. On the side, I work as an independent art consultant, linking starving artists friends and yuppy friends.

I am planning on launching an educational section to my blog where friends can learn about art appreciation so they won't feel intimidated/bored out of going to museums and art galleries. I want to foster love of art and help people develop their own sense of collecting and style.

I enjoy being involved in all areas of arts and culture, whether painted, acted, written, sung, danced. During the week, I often find myself going to art exhibit openings and attending events at my club, the National Arts Club, which supports a great many cultural events in New York. I'm on the roundtable and fashion committees there, and help organize art exhibits and other events.

I'm also very involved in the Brown Alumni Club of New York and serve as its cultural events coordinator. I'm planning a ballet event, wine tastings, as well as a dining event with a celebrated chef. I hope that you will join me this fall.
